SONAbeam 1250S Addresses Enterprise Bandwidth Gap With CarrierClass
Vancouver, Canada June 26, 2002 fSONA announces at the Wireless
Communications Association (WCA) and United Telecom Council (UTC) annual
events the release of the SONAbeam 1250S Free Space Optical
(FSO) system designed to provide Gigabit Ethernet communications at 1250
megabits per second (Mbps).
The SONAbeam 1250-S is a carrierclass product that will benefit
carrier, service provider and enterprise customers who value quality network
equipment. Engineered for top performance in any environment, the SONAbeam
1250S features a rugged housing providing environmental protection in
all weather conditions, redundant lasers operating at 1550nm providing the
industrys highest output power for reliable communications and
robust product design that allows the unit to operate equally well outdoors
or through windows.
The SONAbeam 1250S Gigabit Ethernet product will allow
network managers to bridge local area networks with highspeed connections
using a familiar protocol. As well, companies frustrated with slow wide
area network connections can use the SONAbeam 1250S to remove
network bottlenecks. said fSONA Commmunications president and CEO,
Theresa Carbonneau. For Metro Area Network (MAN) providers the last mile
or even feet can be the most daunting. The SONAbeam 1250S can close
this gap and allow new customers access to high-speed MANs. Providers also
can take advantage of the reduced risk of installing a solution that can
later be redeployed.
SONAbeam FSO technology uses invisible light beams to deliver high-speed
wireless communications. By transmitting through the atmosphere, SONAbeam
dispenses with the substantial costs of digging up sidewalks to install
a fiber link. SONAbeam also eliminates the need to obtain costly radio
frequency (RF) spectrum licenses and it is immune to electro-magnetic/RF
interference. As well, SONAbeam FSO transmissions are very difficult
to eavesdrop on or intercept.
fSONA Systems is recognized as the preferred provider of optical wireless solutions for government, enterprise and service provider markets around the globe. Leveraging leading edge advancements in 1550nm optical transmission, the SONAbeam family of systems, based on free-space-optics (FSO), use a globally unlicensed, wireless technology to provide speeds up to 2.5 Gbps over distances up to 7km.
